Obama Too Risky for America ?

One Response to “Obama Too Risky for America ?”

  1. Bill Keshlear Says:

Let me see if I can get this straight.

In the middle of the worst economic crisis since at least the one that caused the Great Depression, a war in Iraq that has no end in sight, 40 million or so Americans just one sickness away from personal and financial because they don’t have health insurance, global climate change that imperils the planet … in the middle of all of this, the Republican Party is telling people we need to be afraid of Barack Obama because he worked on school reform in Chicago with a guy who was connected to a radical ’60s outfit when Obama was 8 years old.

Would it make a difference that the program that brought them together was funded by Walter Annenberg, a Nixon ambassador? Would that make Annenberg, who in effect, hired them and the hundreds of others who worked with Ayers on the Annenberg Challenge, guilty by associating with the radical guy from the ’60s.

If you follow McCain/Palin logic, wouldn’t that make Annenberg’s wife guilty of associating with the radical guy from the ’60s? She was there after all.

But then Annenberg’s wife endorsed McCain over the weekend.

Can you believe it? A person well-known to have connections with the hiring of a member of the Weather Underground endorsed McCain!

There’s more. According to The Wall Street Journal, McCain has won the support of at least one other person with terrorist connections. This one, John Murtagh, served as a pro bono lawyer for a leader of a group of antiabortion protesters who were investigated on reports of physical assault, harassment, bomb threats and firing bullets into windows.

The truth is that The New York Times, the Washington Post, Time magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and The New Republic, have said that their reporting doesn’t support the idea that Obama and Bill Ayers had a close relationship. CNN said, “There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now ‘palling around,’ or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.”

When the Republican Party of Utah spreads stuff like this video, it is as guilty as Sarah Palin is of inciting violence. Several times over the past few days she has said “Obama is ‘palling around’ with terrorists” and the response has been chants of “Terrorist!” and “Kill him!”

Will the Republican Party stand quietly while McCain supporters, presumably, up and down the Wasatch Front steal Obama signs, paint swastikas on them, and even spray paint the “N” word on signs they leave behind?
